My first student teaching placement was my first time getting used to classroom life and really ensured me that teaching is what I want to do. As my class had a different teacher for social studies and science, I was fortunate enough to observe the styles of two different teachers. I taught lessons in math and English language arts to a very energetic group of students. For a Remembrance Day language arts lessons, I talked with the students about soldiers who are still overseas fighting for our country and showed them how far away Afghanistan was from Canada on a globe. Then, they wrote letters to soldiers in Afghanistan. My boyfriend arrived home the day after Remembrance Day and I had him come into the class in uniform so that the students could hand deliver their letters to give to soldiers in Shilo and ask him questions. They were so excited to have a real solider in their classroom and kept him busy with tons of questions and hugs.
