My Story

    School Days

I spent the first 18 years of my life living in the same house in the town of Portage la Prairie. My interest in music began in Grade 3 with a teacher who constantly had her guitar out and incorporated music into the classroom. I grew up watching my older brother and sister perform in amazing musicals and knew right away that I wanted to do the same thing. I started performing in our elementary drama club and took my first guitar lesson in Grade 6. I then decided that my real love was singing and took voice lessons from Grade 7 on. My favourite school subject was always english as I love reading and creating unique projects and interpretations. I have always loved the creative side of school as I love the process of creating something uniquely my own. While sports were never my strong suit, I enjoyed playing soccer in junior high. In high school I performed in both concert and jazz choir, as well as in all of the drama productions, and toured with the Central Manitoba Youth Choir my Grade 12 year.

 Grown Up

After high school, I moved to Brandon, Mb to begin my Bachelor of Arts at Brandon University. After initially contemplating the nursing program, I concluded that a profession in teaching gave me all of the qualities that I find most important in a career- purposeful, constantly changing, creating meaningful relationships, challenging and creative, and an opportunity to include all of the things that I love- drama,  music, reading- what  more can you ask for in a job! I decided to major in English and minor in Drama, as those have always been subjects that I enjoy. After two years of University, I decided that I needed to get out and see the world. I decided to take a year off of school and my best friend and I set out for Europe with our backpacks. Travel has always been a love of mine as my parents started taking us on trips at a young age. We began by exploring Canada with our camper and then moved onto further destinations. I love learning about culture and different ways of life. After cramming 10 different countries into two months, many amazing experiences and lots of life lessons, I came home and proceeded to work 3 jobs for the rest of the year to save up for school. I finished my Bachelor of Arts the following year and applied for the Education program. I am currently in the first year of my Bachelor of Education at Brandon Univeristy in the early years stream. I cannot wait to have a classroom of my own where I can inspire a love of learning and creativity.
